I found this in an old book of stories today. Fuelled by repeated viewings of 'Top Gun', I would write and illustrate my own war stories to entertain my eleven year old self.

'Alesund, Norway', 2005. I found this piece today, another from the Norway trips in 2005. Alesund is on the western coast of Norway and I spent a few days there, making trips inland to see the fjiords, before heading north towards the Lofoten Islands. Of all the places I visited when based in the UK, Norway and Morocco were my two favourites. 'Glendalough, Co. Wicklow, Ireland', 2004. When I lived in London, one of my first trips away was to Ireland on a eight day tour around the south of the country. Glendalough was about 45 minutes south of Dublin and supposedly where some scenes for the movie 'Braveheart' where shot, apparently there were tax benefits for filming in Ireland. For a while, whilst living in the UK, I had access to a car and used it to make trips around England during weekends and school holidays. After a trip to see family in Liverpool I took a detour on the way back to London to travel through the Peak District. I was only there for a day but this view overlooked rolling hills, ferns, bramble and had a bench bearing a plaque 'Ted's View', testament to some sorely missed, local character. 'Sacred Valley, Peru', 2009. This is the last of the three pieces I did in the school holidays. I stayed in Cusco for about ten days, mainly going out for day trips to explore the surrounding area. Cusco was the Inca capital and is the place where most people set out to walk the Inca trail to Macchu Picchu. 'Baltra Harbour, Galapagos Islands', 2009. Finished this yesterday. Baltra has a small harbour full of boats and a small dock where sea lions take up the benches and moan at you if you try to move them over. The landscape of the islands is secondary to the tame wildlife, fantastic diving and snorkelling 'Bartolome, Galapagos Islands', 2009. Just finished this piece. The picture is dark and doesn't do the colour justice but the orangey-brown and the deep blues especially, are much richer in the flesh. This is the much photographed view of Bartolome and illustrates how wierd a place is to have beautiful golden beaches next to lava fields. 'Montagne Sainte Victoire, France', 2008. Whilst in the south of France for a christening I was asked what I wanted to do with a spare afternoon and I jumped at the chance to see Cezanne's mountain for myself. We had walked up the south face for a bit but on the way back we pulled over and I hastily sketched this view on a 'Post-it' note I found in the car. This photo is a little dark but you get an idea of the colour. 'The Devils Cataract, Victoria Falls', 2008 Quite dark but an image of the largest of the African series to date. I went to view them from the Zimbabwean side where a network of trails follow the lip of the falls, most of them under a blanket of spray. The Devils Cataract is on the western side and from this vantage point it was possible to peer through the trees and see the odd rainbow arching through the spray. |
